Derby Dayโs black-and-white tradition makes choosing your dress a little easier. A black midi is always a lovely option when you want something classic, and itโs easy to wear again after race day. White feels fresh for spring and looks especially nice with black shoes or headwear. You can bring a little more personality in through the neckline, lace or a subtle print. For another day in the carnival, melbourne cup dresses give you much more room to play with colour.
Start with the dress, then use the black-and-white palette to pull the rest of the outfit together. A midi is an easy place to begin because it feels dressy enough for race day and works nicely with a hat or fascinator. A black midi dress gives you a classic base for white shoes or lighter accessories. A white midi dress looks lovely with black details through your bag, shoes or headwear. Lace and monochrome prints can add a little more interest when you want the dress to have more detail. A blue cornflower is also a sweet finishing touch for the day, especially when the rest of your outfit is kept simple.
For your Derby Day dress, think about what youโll feel good wearing from the first race through to the last. The length should work with the shoes you have planned, and the dress should still feel special enough for the occasion. A strapless dress can be a lovely option for warmer spring weather, especially when you already have a statement hat or earrings in mind. Once youโve found the dress you love, use the black-and-white palette to guide the rest of your outfit.
