HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT BRIDESMAID DRESS
Just like most wedding shopping experiences, searching for your bridesmaids' dresses is plenty of fun - but it can be equally overwhelming. Thatโs why weโre here to take the pressure off such an important decision.ย
Hereโs what you should consider when choosing summer, spring, winter or autumn bridesmaid dresses:
SPILL THE TEA ON BRIDESMAID DRESS BUDGETS
While it might seem uncomfortable in any other social setting, talking about dollars and cents is essential for weddings. Setting the tone from the get-go and discussing your ideal budget is important. Be transparent with your bridal party and talk about your vision - and how much it will cost.
Weโve all been there - and thatโs why we stock a range of gorgeous - and affordable! - bridesmaid dresses. The range of dresses - from elegant floor-length gowns to flirty and fun cocktail pieces - means that you have more of a chance of aligning everyoneโs budgets and expectations with your overall vision.ย
ITโS NEVER TOO EARLY TO START LOOKING
See it? Like it? Want it? It's highly recommended to have a clear vision of the dresses you desire for your bridal party at least seven to eight months before your wedding day. Get a group chat going on and throw out suggestions in style, colours, lengths and fabrics, and gauge their responses. This generous time frame gives your bride tribe plenty of opportunity to order their dresses and accommodate any necessary alterations.
DONโT BE AFRAID TO EMBRACE INDIVIDUAL STYLES
Remember this golden rule when planning your bridesmaid gowns: When your bridal party feels their best, they'll look their best! Embrace each bridesmaid's unique body type and personal style. Whether it's a modern flair, an eclectic twist, or a specific colour scheme, honouring their individual styles ensures not only a visually captivating bridal party but also a day filled with radiance and joy.
We made a point of curating a collection of bridesmaid dresses to suit a range of personal tastes and styles. You and your bride squad can start scrolling through the elegant, fun and vibrant pieces today and start creating a shortlist!
Youโll find some of these bridesmaid gowns in these styles at Billy J:
- Off-the-shoulder midi dresses: These dresses blend playful charm with sophistication, perfect for creating a relaxed yet elegant bridesmaid look. They also come in a pleated fabric style, adding a different feel to your classic bridesmaid dress.ย
- Elegant high-neckline gowns: These gowns offer a touch of classic elegance, ideal for a formal and refined wedding atmosphere. Halter neck dresses also fit this category for a more modern take on the classic bridesmaid dress silhouette.
- Strappy dresses: Go for thicker straps with a square neckline for a bridesmaid look with a modern twist. Thereโs also the classic spaghetti strap combined with a slouchy neckline for a more contemporary interpretation. This is a timeless choice for a bridesmaid gown.
- Cap and long-sleeve dresses: These provide options for different seasons and personal comfort levels, adding a unique flair to the bridal party's ensemble.ย

EMBRACE THE FULL SPECTRUM OF THE COLOUR WHEEL
Weโve covered the entire rainbow with our selection of bridesmaid dresses at Billy J. If youโve chosen pastels as your colour scheme or want to embrace bold hues, weโve got a dress for you.ย
Black, Brown, beige: if youโre going for a more rustic look at your wedding, bridesmaid dresses in black, brown or beige will be a good choice to evoke feelings of sophistication and elegance.ย
Orange, red, pink, purple: for a wedding with a more laid-back atmosphere, you might want to embrace these bold hues. Bridesmaid dresses in any of these shades will add a pop of colour to proceedings and - if youโve chosen to dress in white - make you stand out all the more!
Champagne, gold, silver, white: champagne bridesmaid dresses have become a lasting trend in the bridal world, and many brides have embraced this more glamorous palette for their bridal party. These colours are lovely choices if youโve chosen a more formal setting for your wedding.
Having trouble making the final choice? Donโt forget that different shades of the same colour can make for a striking bridal party look!ย
HOW TO NAIL THE MISMATCHED BRIDESMAID DRESS TREND
We love any opportunity to show off a creative streak, so weโre jumping on board with this one: mismatched bridesmaid outfits. However, there are three main ways to get it right (and avoid a messy look):
Choose dresses in the same style but different colours
Adore the look of a particular dress due to the silhouette, the fabric, or the length? Embrace the versatility of colours within your bridal party by choosing the same bridesmaid dress but in different shades.ย
Hot tip: A good rule of thumb is to keep it to no more than three colour variations.
Choose the same dress colour but different styles
This is an easy one to achieve (and one your bridesmaids will love!) Ask your bridesmaids to pick their favourite style dress - but with your chosen colour theme. This shows them you acknowledge not every dress is flattering for every body shape, and theyโll appreciate the freedom of choice in selecting a comfortable gown.
Choose different dress styles and different colours
Go all out and find different dress styles in various lengths, fabrics and colours. You could play with different tones or use your wedding palette as inspiration.
Hot tip: Ensure you have time to see all the dresses together before walking down that aisle to ensure cohesiveness.
