Wow! What a year it’s been. In case you missed it: from Prince Harry and Duchess Megan welcoming a little royal prince into the world through to Khloe Kardashian and rapper Tristan Thompson’s (very public) breakup, there’s certainly been some major highs and lows this year. There’s been a lot to take in, and with just a few weeks until Christmas, it will be January before you know it!
This time of the year is especially stressful (they don’t call it the ‘silly season’ for nothing). So, while you might have nailed your wardrobe, have you mastered taking the time to refresh and reset?
While we think you don’t need to wait until January 1 to start working on new goals, we think it’s the perfect time to take advantage of your annual reminder to recharge before we do it all over again next year.
Here’s our tips on how to survive the holiday rush, as well as recharge your batteries.
Drink more water: Between all those staff parties, there’s an abundance of sugar-filled and rich foods to enjoy (not to mention those cheeky glasses of bubbly). If you’re feeling a little lethargic and run down, try to increase your intake of water, as well as few veggies. You’ll be amazed at how much these will give you a boost and new lease on life.
Unfollow and unsubscribe: Leave junk mail behind – where you’re going, you don’t need it. It only takes 20 minutes out of your day to go into your email account(s) and unsubscribe from any newsletters that don’t inspire or motivate you. You’ll be surprised how many you might have forgotten about. The same sentiment applies to your social media: unfollow the accounts that bring out any toxic thoughts and emotions (it’s okay to unfollow in real life, too.)
Back it up: The silly season means we’re constantly rushing around – and twice as likely to be clumsy and drop our phones. When was the last time you backed up your phone data? If you’re anything like us, the answer would be only when you get a new upgrade (oops!). We don’t need you to imagine what would happen if you accidentally dropped your phone on the sidewalk or into water. So, this is a friendly reminder to back up your phone – after all, you don’t want to lose those photos and videos of your best memories.
Give yourself permission to breathe: When was the last time you did anything for yourself? We’re talking about getting a full body massage, taking a warm bath, or even reading a good book. Not only will pampering yourself reduce your stress, but taking a day out to pamper yourself will improve your mental and physical health.
Show gratitude: This one is a personal favourite of ours, and it’s so easy to do. Grab an A5 notebook with a pretty cover and write one thing you’re grateful for, every day. It doesn’t matter whether it’s big or small – just write it down. Then, whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed, you can go back to your notebook and reflect on all the things you’re grateful for in your life.
Ease into your goals: Whether you want to get fitter, travel the world, or learn a new skill or hobby, it’s all about those baby steps. It’s just not realistic to do everything and make all the changes on your first day. Be kinder to yourself and accept that everything good takes time and effort.
