Add Florals to Brighten Up Your Autumn Afternoon

Add Florals to Brighten Up Your Autumn Afternoon

Florals? For spring? Ground-breaking. But what about florals in autumn? Now, that’s interesting. After all, tulips in full bloom, BBQs, and baby animals are all synonymous with spring and warm weather. But who’s to say we can’t invite a little bit of brightness into those chilly autumn afternoons with some on-trend florals?

The possibilities are practically endless when it comes to revamping your wardrobe as the seasons change. Unlike summer (who doesn’t live in crop tops and a pair of denim shorts?), your autumn wardrobe requires a little bit of finessing. One look that is transeasonal, however, is the botanical trend.

Flower child: how to rule the floral look

If you’re looking for some style inspo to lift your spirits and get you fashionably prepared for the changing of the seasons, here’s a few ways to effortlessly add florals to your everyday look this autumn.

Say yes to the dress

We’re not talking about the type of dress you dream about walking down the aisle in. No, we’re talking about wearing dresses in autumn and - dare we say - winter. After all, fashion is about breaking some of the rules.

Pretty to look at, and nicer to touch - our floral dress outfits come in an assortment of styles for you. Made from a range of materials such as polyester, cotton and spandex, our garments are designed to make you feel confident as you transition from one season to the next.

Keep cosy in our mid-length, long-sleeved tent silhouettes, and pair with boots for a suited and booted look. If you’re not a loose-loving fan, use our Sinclair Basic Square Faux Croc Skin Belt around the waist for a tight fit. You can still get away with wearing spaghetti strap floral dresses: you’ll just need to throw on a long-line knitted cardi like our Austin Cardigan for the ultimate boho chic look.

We love:

Nori Dress
Empress Dress
Inara Dress

Not ready to graduate to the dress just yet? Try the throw-on-and-go ease of a jumpsuit instead.

Top It Like It’s Hot

One of the easiest ways to carry florals into autumn is with separates - like a cute top. When you’re not ready to go head-to-toe florals, separates are the perfect alternative to a floral dress outfit.

Brave the colder months in cropped sleeve styles or billowy, off-the-shoulder looks (just remember to bring a jacket before you head out.) Or, make a statement in a combo of leopard and florals: with an open back and tie front, this will steal the show whether you’re heading off to a first date or brunch with the girls. High neck styles that are reminiscent of Queen Vicky are sure to have you feeling extra regal, as are blouses with buttons all the way up to the neck.

Relaxed fit or figure-hugging, all you need to do is pair with high waist jeans and your look is complete.

The long and short of it

Who’d have thought that your fave maxi skirts with floral prints would see you through to autumn 2020? Well, they have, and they’re here for the foreseeable. Show off those pins in mini skirt designs - leave bare or add opaque stockings with boots for a ‘90s grunge look. Take it one step further with midi length styles in bright and bold colours.

Add edge to your look with ruffled tiers that fall down to your calves or go all the way with floor-sweeping maxis (and some even feature side pockets!) With drawstring tie ups and elasticated waistbands, our skirts will keep you comfortable all day.

Remember not to clash patterns and to keep it simple: a plain white or black singlet top or tee will ensure your skirt remains the feature of your outfit.

Chase colours

During the darkness that is autumn, adding a pop of colour to our wardrobe works as the perfect little pick-me-up to remind ourselves of a life outside of the oversized teddy jackets and charcoal turtlenecks. Every year, we make the switch from bright colours to neutral, head-to-toe nudes. We’re all for tonal layers of khaki, creams, beige and oatmeal for an earthy blend of goodness - but we’re saying yes to bright yellows, oranges and baby blues.

If you’re a black-on-black type of gal, you can still dare to add a bit of colour to your monochrome wardrobe with some bright footwear. When the weather isn’t yet boot-ready, we love a touch of yellow suede, pink slides or red heels (but if you’re still not feeling it, at least paint your toenails with a bright coral shellac. Go on!)

Our top choices for bright footwear:

Lidia Mule
Madrid Essential Slides
Superga 2790
Balira Heel

As you can see, we are getting serious separation anxiety with our florals. With summer over just as soon as it began, we’re not ready to put the flower motif to bed just yet. That’s why we’re seeing it through to another season.

Not ready to let go either? Add florals to brighten up your autumn afternoon and head to Billy J Boutique, where we have a gorgeous collection of florals waiting just for you. With fast shipping across Australia, we’ve got your autumn wardrobe sorted.
